Purezza presents the Oceansaver Accolade to Sausalitos for its ecological commitment

09 August 2022 Purezza is part of Waterlogic, a leading global designer, manufacturer, distributor, and service provider of purified drinking water. The Purezza system was introduced to provide a modern, environmentally friendly and effective way of supplying premium quality water to the hospitality market. Purezza presents its latest Oceansaver Accolade to Sausalitos. This accolade is given to organisations across the world that have taken steps to reduce single-use plastics and carbon emissions. By making changes to reduce waste and carbon emissions we can better protect our natural world.

Sausalitos have implemented many sustainable initiatives in their restaurants, as part of their ReCare project. As one of the leading restaurant chains in Germany, they believe it is their duty to use resources responsibly through innovative product ideas, awareness among their own employees, and by being transparent.

The ReCare project started as a way to bring their environmentally friendly initiatives together into a single plan. It outlines the ways they are examining their operations and products, the improvements they are making in emission and waste reduction, and how resources are used. They believe that every effort is worth its contribution, one step at a time. The “Re” in “ReCare” stands for “recurring”, with Sausalitos committing to continually reviewing its products and processes.

One project was to review how they serve still and sparkling water to customers in their restaurants. Previously, as is the case with many restaurants across the world, Sausalitos would purchase water from beverage suppliers in bottles. The production and logistics required to deliver these bottles to more than 40 restaurants created waste and CO2 emissions that they believed could be reduced.

With the help of the Purezza system, which is now in place in more than 40 Sausalitos restaurants, significant environmental savings have been achieved. Water is now filtered on site, with the Purezza system producing unlimited chilled, still, and sparkling water, which is served in reusable glass bottles.

The long supply chains and CO2 emissions associated with the provision of single-use bottled water, via the beverage wholesaler, has been saved. In addition, Purezza is space-saving and easy to handle. No more delivering, storing and carrying crates of bottles. The constant availability of chilled water also saves expensive cooling capacity.

The production and disposal of single-use plastic bottles continues to have a detrimental impact on our planet. Globally, one million plastic bottles are bought every minute with just 9% recycled. By 2050, it is estimated that our oceans will contain more plastic waste than fish, with 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfills taking more than 400 years to degrade.

The Purezza system (part of the Waterlogic family) was developed specifically for the hospitality industry allowing venues to integrate sustainable practices and reduce the amount of pre-packaged bottled water going to landfill. By the end of 2020, in collaboration with their customers, Purezza helped remove around 60-million single-use bottles from the hospitality supply chain and is leading the movement to remove an additional 30 million single-use bottles year-on-year.

Kamen Dimov, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing, Waterlogic GmbH commented “Sausalitos ReCare project is a brilliant example of how the hospitality industry could make a significant impact to their carbon footprint. We are honoured to have been able to work with the great team at Sausalitos and contribute to one of their many initiatives.”

The Oceansaver programme is in line with Waterlogic’s and Purezza’s overall corporate mission to develop solutions that use less energy, produce less waste and extend the use of finite global resources in the most efficient way. The company aims to reduce their own environmental impact right across their supply chain, from design, manufacturing, and distribution, to managing the carbon footprint in their offices.

Waterlogic has already presented accolades to The Four Seasons Hotel, Miami, DPD UK, Goldman Sachs UK, Interserve on behalf of E.ON and the Iberostar Group amongst others, and will continue to recognise deserving, sustainability-focused customers across the world.
